The family of Benedetta Poretti, which over time built Italy’s best known spirits brand, Disaronno, immersed themselves in the world of wine and Marsala in 1998 with the purchase of another iconic Italian name – Florio.
Benedetta studied Natural Sciences, and throughout her career has remained dedicated to understanding nature and natural processes. She has worked for Italy’s National Parks and Protected Areas Service, undertaking scientific research and environmental communications. She has focused her efforts in developing the sustainability of Italy’s protected natural lands, including the management of visitors centers and internet communication.
In 2007, after working globally to protect the world’s natural lands and resources, her family asked her to turn to the natural relation between nature and sustainability through the world of wine. And so began her adventures in Sicily, a unique place in the world renowned for its natural and cultural treasures. She likes to call the island a little continent, where west meets east in diverse soils and climates. From Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, in the East to the sunbelt in the west where Marsala is born, she has built a strong bond with the islands viticultural and enological realities, and loves to share the story of this unique place and its wines. In particular, she has become an international ambassador to that most unique and most Sicilian of wines, Marsala.
