Christanna is a North Carolina native and a 12 year industry veteran who got her start in the hospitality industry at age 16, when she got her first job as a hostess at a local pizza place. She worked her way up to server and immediately found herself drawn to connecting with guests and being a part of their experience. While pursuing a Bio/Chem degree at UNC Chapel Hill, Christanna continued working full-time in restaurants in various roles including server, shift leader, banquet captain, and bartender. She got her start behind a bar at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Durham, and fell in love with cocktails and spirits just as the craft cocktail renaissance was taking shape. While working behind the bar at Maggiano’s Little Italy, she received national recognition for a drink she crafted for the cocktail list.
After graduating, Christanna decided to move to San Diego, California, to explore a new career path. Her wine journey truly began when she landed a job at The Barrel Room, a wine bar in North County, where her passionate enthusiasm about wine was recognized by a colleague who encouraged her to pursue wine education. She became a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and eventually took over the wine program at The Barrel Room. While living in San Diego, Christanna also developed a deep interest in craft beer, and began formally studying beer as well.
Now residing once again in her home state, Christanna currently works alongside Advanced Sommelier Elizabeth Cooper as the Assistant Wine and Beer Manager at Southern Season, a landmark gourmet marketplace in Chapel Hill. She also serves as a wine specialist at Bar Brunello, a new specialty wine bar in downtown Durham. She is planning to take the CMS Advanced Sommelier exam and the Certified Cicerone exam in 2017.
