Guy Davis’ first affair with wine came at the age of 19, putting himself through college cooking nights in a French restaurant with a French chef and owner from Paris.
Guy remembers — ”Every night, once I finished in the kitchen I would join the two Frenchmen for dinner, tasting and learning the details of France’s great wine regions and the grapes that make up those wines. I developed an instant connection with wine.”
Guy worked his first harvest in the vineyards/winery in 1989 and has crushed every vintage since, not only in California, but in France, New Zealand and Argentina. In 1996 Guy purchased and planted his estate Soul Patch Vineyard in Russian River Valley. The following year he started Davis Family Vineyards. “My goal with Pinot Noir is to make the wine in the Vineyards; working with each vine 12 –15 times from pruning to harvest.” Once in the winery special attention is spent on the gentle, natural handling of the wine.
“Fanatical attention to detail lets me capture all the richness while preserving and highlighting the balance and complexity; “I try hard to accentuate the sensual side of Pinot Noir.”
Along with Pinot Noir, Guy farms Syrah, Chardonnay and old vine Zinfandel on his southeast facing hillside. Everything on the Estate Vineyard is organically farmed. In addition to the wines from his estate, he crafts both white & red Rhone varietal blends as well as a blend of red Bordeaux varietals and sparkling.
