Matt Kettmann is senior editor of The Santa Barbara Independent, where he's worked since 1999, and a contributing editor for Wine Enthusiast, where he reviews more than 2,000 Central Coast wines per year. He's written about wine, travel, the environment, and other topics for the New York Times, Time Magazine, Smithsonian, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Wine Spectator, among other publications. In 2012, he made a barrel of syrah from Ampelos Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, and has made about a barrel each year since, including Thompson Vineyard grenache, Lake County cabernet sauvignon, and Paso Robles mourvedre. He lives with his Bordeaux-born wife, Joanna, and two kids in the suburbs of Santa Barbara.
