Maurice is a certified sommelier, certified cicerone, CRT certified by the Consejo Regulador del Tequila. As a boy he grew up in Jerez, Zacatecas and came to the USA to start school. He fell in love with wine during his ten years of working in the San Francisco restaurant industry during the mid 90's. His love for wine led to extensive travel around the world; however, he always made time to return to Mexico. There he realized that wine has more in common with agave spirits than any other distilled spirit.
Today he is the beverage director for the Cohn Restaurant Group and oversees wine, beer & spirits for over 20 restaurants in San Diego, Long Beach & Maui. Maurice also teaches California Wine, Spanish Wine, South American Wine & Wine Sensory Evaluation at San Diego State University's Business of Wine Program.
