As Owner of A16 and SPQR restaurants, James Beard Award-winning Shelley Lindgren is one of the country’s most respected voices on Italian wine. A Bay Area native with a strong background in the San Francisco culinary community, Lindgren continues to nurture relationships with Italian winemakers, her wine team, and restaurant guests.
Recently elected the 2015 “Outstanding Wine Program” Award at A16 by the James Beard Foundation, Lindgren has also been named “Best New Sommelier” by Wine & Spirits, “Best Wine Director” by San Francisco magazine, and has been nominated annually for “Sommelier of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast since 2012, in addition to receiving the 2009 Golden Goblet by Women Chefs & Restaurateurs. She co-authored the 2009 IACP “Cookbook of the Year” and “Julia Child” Award-winning “A16 Food & Wine,” celebrating the wine traditions of Campania and Southern Italy, and followed with "SPQR Food & Wine” in 2012. Co-authored with Matthew Accarrino and Kate Leahy, the SPQR cookbook and wine guide explores the wines and winemakers of Central and Northern Italy.
Recognized as an official ambassador of the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone, Lindgren also sits on the board of the Guild of Sommeliers and Slide Ranch. She donates her time and wine-related resources to the James Beard Foundation’s "Taste America,” La Cocina, Saint Peter and Paul School, Make-A-Wish, and Girls Inc., and is regularly invited to participate at numerous culinary and wine events such as Wine Aukland, TEXSOM, and the San Francisco International Wine Competition. As a mother of two, Shelley also organized an A16 running team to benefit Every Mother Counts, Christy Turlington's non-profit organization focused on maternal health worldwide.
