Sophia grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she started working in an array of positions in restaurants at a young age. While cooking and working in kitchens at 19, Sophia discovered a love and intrigue with wine and its potential with food; she started to pursue understanding it, which of course truly took off the morning of her 21st birthday when she enrolled in the Court of Master Sommeliers program and started taking wine classes with culinary students at the local community college.
At 22, she quit cooking to attend the International Culinary Center of New York's Intensive Sommelier program for 10 weeks and became a Certified Sommelier through the Court. Sophia flew back home and became the wine director at a local restaurant called The Blue Star where she eventually decided that she would pursue the higher level certifications. She got hired as a sommelier at Summit at The Broadmoor at 24 where Sophia still work the floor today.
In 2017, she was able to compete at the national level for the Chaine des Rotisseurs Best Young Sommelier competition representing the Southwest region of the United States and am sitting the Advanced Exam this November.
When Sophia is not thinking about wine, she is hunting for mid-century antiques and hanging out with her husband and energetic blue heeler named Apollo.
