Anibal Calcagno
Since an early age Anibal Calcagno has been interested in wine. At 19 years old while working as a server and bartender he bought his first wine book. He researched and knew everything about the wines on that list. Destined to be a sommelier he continued to study wines and knew a door would open soon.
In 2005 Brenner’s Steakhouse owned by Landry’s Restaurants in Houston Texas gave him an opportunity to work a sommelier one day a week and eventually he became the wine director for that concept. Looking for new challenges he assisted with several wine programs and wine events within the Landry’s family of restaurants. He was transferred to New York to run the wine program at Vic & Anthony’s steakhouse. He stayed in New York and ran the fun craft cocktail program and wrote the wine list for Indian Accent in New York City.
Anibal has competed and placed in past Texsom Sommelier competitions. He currently volunteers and servers as an adviser for SommCon. His beverage programs have received press and awards by several publications. He has certifications through The Court of Master Sommeliers, Society of Wine Educators, and the International Sommelier Guild. He has overseen several award-winning beverage programs in high profile restaurants. He is currently enjoying working as the Wine Director for Oceans New York.
